Im an amateur systems administrator and a self-taught IT specialist from the St. Louis area. Here are some of my fields of expertise: --Network Configuration and Management-- -Network Setup: Proficient in setting up and configuring network hardware such as routers, switches, and firewalls. -Network Security: Skilled in implementing and maintaining security measures to protect networks from threats such as malware and unauthorized access. -Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Experienced in continuously monitoring network performance and diagnosing/resolving network issues to ensure seamless operations. --Server Management-- -Docker Containerization: Using Docker to manage multiple services efficiently, reducing the need for separate physical servers. -Cloudflare Integration: Leveraging Cloudflare to secure and manage DNS, and to deploy services across various servers seamlessly. -System Maintenance: Conducting regular maintenance tasks to keep servers running smoothly and securely. --Web Hosting and Development-- -Website Hosting: Hosting multiple websites and web applications, including personal blogs, forums, and various online tools. -Web Technologies: Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, allowing for the creation and maintenance of simple web pages and interactive features. -Special Projects: Hosting a variety of custom web services such as chatboxes, search engines, and URL shorteners. --DNS Management-- -DNS Configuration: Setting up and managing DNS records for multiple domains and subdomains. -Domain Management: Ensuring that all domain-related settings are optimized for performance and security. --Security Measures-- -Firewall Configuration: Implementing and managing firewalls to protect against unauthorized access and potential threats. -Secure Access: Using tools like VPNs and Cloudflare Tunnel to secure access to internal applications and servers. ----Hosting Environment---- - I host in total 21 sites, using cloudflares tunnel software on both my pc and my vps. Below are some of the details of how i go about hosting my sites. -Home PC -Number of Sites: 17 subdomains -Services Hosted: Chatbox, personal blog, forum, URL shortener, games, weather information, IP tools, and more. -Setup: Cloudflare's Tunneling software is employed to securely connect these services to the Cloudflare network, ensuring reliable access and protection from direct attacks. Docker containers are used to manage multiple services efficiently, reducing the need for separate physical servers, and to provide isolation from one another(if one server is compromised my other containers wont have any impact and i can just remove the container in question). Cloudflare's DNS management is leveraged to point domains and subdomains to the appropriate local IP addresses and ports on my machine. -VPS Hosting (New Jersey)- -Number of Sites: 4 subdomains -Services Hosted: Portainer dashboard, speed test, search engine, and cloud storage. -Setup: Utilizing a VPS hosted by Ionos in New Jersey to host additional services. Cloudflare is used for DNS management and security, with services deployed in Docker containers for easy management and scalability. I also benefit from container isolation here as well seeing as its not locally hosted and do not have direct access to it, it is essential to keep these seperate in case one is compromised. Additionally, my Ionos VPS is secured by Cloudflare's Zero Trust Access login, ensuring that unauthorized users are kept out of my cloud storage and Portainer dashboard. I enjoy exploring and implementing various IT solutions, constantly learning and improving my skills. If you’re interested in my work or have any questions, feel free to reach out!
